Rest in peace, Kobe.
We had a good run. 9 years in fact, and I relished every minute of it. Kobe the whippet was one of those rare dogs that just exudes a gentle and loving spirit that spreads around whatever room he was in. Just the most loyal and tender hearted dog you ever did see.
Kobe alone is responsible for a major shift in the attitudes towards dogs of nearly everyone who knew him. A truly great ambassador for canines everywhere. When he wasn’t lazing on the couch, that is.
Kobe was a gentle giant. A strong capable giant who could cross a hundred yards in mere seconds. You should have seen him run. Nothing could match him, not even our younger whippet Turk. No, Kobe was a big bruiser on the outside hiding a heart of gold within.
He passed away today at exactly noon, surrounded by his whole family. I am so thankful for my time with him and the opportunity to comfort him in his final moments. Kobe had a stroke resulting from a months long battle with an advanced and aggressive nasal cancer that had worked its way into his brain. We rushed him to the vet so that his final moments could be in peace, which is the best way it could have happened.
You will be missed, Kobe.

Thank you for this. It is not easy losing a beloved childhood pet, but we all saw this coming and could prepare for it.

Sorry to hear that. Had the same thing happen to my dog, Brutus, last summer. He was about thirteen.
“ Kobe alone is responsible for a major shift in the attitudes towards dogs of nearly everyone who knew him.”
Brutus was the same. I scared everyone in my family when they first found out I adopted a pitbull. His obedience, calmness and demeanor with children won everyone over.

Very sorry to hear that, he looked like such a sweetheart

Thank you. Yes, Kobe was just so loving and patient - great around kids and adults alike - and so brave; he didn’t mutter so much as a whimper even at the end of a long and very painful fight with cancer. I doubt a single person who came into contact with him didn’t learn something about themselves from that beautifu l strong brave dog .
Sorry to hear you went through something similar but it seems you can find peace knowing the good life he lived.

I’m so sorry to hear this. They are truly family, and they have a way of bringing out the best in us for so little asked in return.

Thank you for sharing that.

My sincere condolences on your loss. I know how it feels to lose a beloved dog . As I always think in this situation: one of the best things about humans’ relatively long lives is that we get to meet a lot of good dogs, but that doesn’t make the loss of one hurt any less. Be well.

This is comforting. There will be more dogs, but none like Kobe, making his time here even more treasured.

Oh no! I know what it’s like to lose a good one to cancer. You earned your wings, Kobe. Fly high and fast.

Had to walk away the first time. So sorry. Im too lazy for doggos, but know all too well from my felines. And yes it will take a while, and yes i am fogging up again for you and Kobe

I am so sorry. I’m on my first pair that are “my” dogs and I have no idea how I’m going to get through their inevitable demise in some number of years.

I’m so sorry. I just lost my big boy to cancer last month and found out the other day my little girl has cancer. It’s pretty awful. Our pets make us better people. It hurts so much to lose them but we’re so lucky to have them while we do.

Than k you. Yes, they are a blessing so cherish them while you can. So so sorry to hear about your little girl. That is a hard thing to hear, especially when they are young. My prayers go out to her through the hard times to come before the path to recovery.

We knew this was coming and have 9 whole years of memories to cherish. It was just Kobe's time and so we had the vet waiting for us inside (in person, such a blessing), so it was made easier. Thank you.

Aww, not Kobe :( I miss my old dog... A house just ain’t complete without a dog if you ask me. As soon as I’m in a position where I can adopt a new dog, I will. My neighbors just got a new dog, and I can see them abusing it from my bedroom window. Breaks my heart, but I’m not sure what I can do about it...

I’m so sorry for your loss and all those whose lives he touched.
I was hoping it was all going to turn around and he was going to pull through.
I explained to a colleague who wasn’t raised with dogs what dogs mean to a person/family. He couldn’t fathom why someone would want an animal and bond with it like we do, knowing they don’t live nearly as long as we do . I nearly cried explaining that although they live much shorter lives than us , the love, friendship and memories they give make up for the pain of their passing. How they help us mentally, emotionally and physically.
I’m truly sorry for Kobe’s passing.
My thoughts go out to you and your family at this time.
Rest in peace Kobe, your a very good boy. The best.

So sorry to hear. It seems a bit of a trend, as a close friend just lost his staffie after 22 years. Just know that Kobe's life and legacy is directly because of you. Be proud of the fact that he touched so many lives and opinions. A life well lived. Pouring one out for y'all'.

Yes, a real all-star, well rounded in everything someone could expect of a dog and more.

Thank you, Svend. A dog teaches you so much about the world and about yourself while asking so little in return. Just an amazing thing to be a part of, and Kobe was just the best example. In fact, se veral people I know used to be scared of or nervous around dogs and now have one of their own because of Kobe.

Fortunately, we still have Turk around, who basically learned how to be a dog from good old Kobe. Sorry to hear about your neighbor's dog. You never really know what to do in those cases. For instance, the cat hoarder across the street has always been a problem and there isn't much we can do. Hard stuff.
![]() 05/01/2020 at 11:34 |
|
So true.
OPPO may be a little darker for his passing, but the sky is equally brighter with the ascension of a new star, a good boy star, the best star.
I hope Turk is doing okay.
![]() 05/01/2020 at 11:44 |

Thank you. Turkey was close to Kobe and looked up to him, but they were closer this past week in particular. We all feel it.

Dogs have an affinity of knowing when something is wrong and wanting to nurture.
